The report builder is a drag-and-drop editor for designing exactly what your report looks like — tables, text, images, and page layout — on top of the data source you chose when creating the report.
Before You Start
- Create a report from a template or from blank
- Know which data source your report uses — it determines the fields, filters, and parameters available in the builder
Builder Layout
The builder has three panels:
- Components (left) — draggable building blocks
- Canvas (center) — your report page, shown at its real print dimensions
- Properties (right) — settings for whichever component you’ve selected on the canvas
The toolbar across the top holds Filters, Parameters, Page Settings, Preview, Schedule, Save, and Cancel. The Save button shows a badge while you have unsaved changes.
Components
Drag any of these from the left panel onto the canvas:
| Component | Use it for |
|---|
| Text | Headings, labels, and static copy |
| Variable | A single value pulled from your data (e.g., a customer name or total) |
| Container | Grouping and arranging other components |
| Table | Rows of data with configurable columns |
| Image | Logos and other graphics |
| Divider | Horizontal separator lines |
Configuring Tables
Select a table and open its column editor to control exactly what it shows. For each column you can set the data field, the header label, the format (for currency and date fields), alignment, width, and visibility. Use Add Column to bring in more fields from your data source.
Filters and Parameters
- Filters narrow the data baked into the report — set them once in the builder and they apply on every run. The available filter fields come from the report’s data source.
- Parameters are values the person running the report supplies each time (for example a date range or a specific customer). Open Parameters to enable or disable each one, rename its label, and reorder how they’re presented.
Use a filter for things that should always be true (e.g., only shipped orders), and a parameter for things that change run to run (e.g., which month).
Page Settings
Open Page Settings to control the printed page:
- Page size: A4, A3, A5, Letter, Legal, Tabloid, or Custom dimensions
- Orientation: Portrait or Landscape
- Units: mm, inches, or pixels
- Margins: top, right, bottom, and left
The default is A4 portrait with 20 mm margins.
Previewing and Running
Click Preview (or open the report from the reports list with Run Report) to go to the preview page. Fill in any parameters — date presets like Last 7 Days, This Month, or Custom Range are available for date parameters — and click Generate Preview.
From the preview you can view the report on screen, Download PDF, or Print.
