Overview

The Defaults page allows you to configure system-wide settings that control how WorkSuite calculates replenishment demand. These settings affect the algorithms used across your Restock module to determine optimal inventory levels and ordering quantities.

Accessing Defaults

Navigate to Restock > Data Management > Defaults to access the settings page.
The Defaults page is the landing page when you navigate to Data Management, making it easy to review and adjust settings regularly.

Configuration Settings

Forward Days (LY)

Range: 0 to 21 days This setting determines how many days ahead to look when comparing current year performance to last year’s data. Example: Setting this to 14 days means the system will compare the next 14 days of this year’s projected demand to the same 14-day period from last year. Use case: Useful for seasonal planning and trend analysis.

Trailing Days (TY)

Range: 0 to 21 days This setting specifies how many days of recent sales history to consider when calculating current demand trends. Example: Setting this to 7 days means the system analyzes the past week’s sales data to understand current demand patterns. Use case: Helps identify short-term demand shifts and respond to recent sales trends.

Target WOS (Weeks of Supply)

Range: 0.1 to 52 weeks Defines your target inventory level expressed as weeks of supply based on projected demand. Example: Setting this to 2.0 means you want to maintain enough inventory to cover 2 weeks of expected sales. Use case: Balance inventory investment with stockout risk. Lower values reduce carrying costs but increase stockout risk; higher values provide buffer but tie up capital.

Inventory Trailing Days

Range: 0 to 21 days Specifies how many days of historical inventory data to analyze when identifying inventory trends and patterns. Example: Setting this to 14 days means the system looks at the past 2 weeks of inventory movements to detect trends. Use case: Helps identify slow-moving inventory or seasonal inventory patterns.

Shipment Increment

Range: 0 to 144 A multiplier applied to minimum shelf quantities when calculating order quantities. Example: If an item has a minimum shelf quantity of 10 and shipment increment is set to 2, the system will order in multiples of 20 (10 × 2). Use case: Aligns order quantities with supplier pack sizes, shipping efficiency, or retail display requirements.

Round to Full Cart

Type: Toggle (On/Off) When enabled, the system rounds calculated order quantities up to the nearest full cart based on your container configurations. Example: If enabled and a calculated order would fill 2.3 carts, the system recommends 3 full carts. Use case: Simplifies warehouse operations and ensures efficient use of transportation resources.
This setting works in conjunction with your container configurations defined in the Containers section of Data Management.

How to Update Settings

1

Navigate to Defaults

Go to Restock > Data Management > Defaults
2

Adjust values

Enter your desired values for each setting. The form validates inputs in real-time and shows error messages if values are out of range.
3

Review changes

Ensure all values are within acceptable ranges and the “Save All Settings” button is enabled.
4

Save

Click “Save All Settings” to apply your changes. You’ll see a confirmation message when settings are successfully saved.
Changes to these settings affect all future demand calculations. Review the impact of changes with your operations team before applying new values.

Validation Rules

The form includes built-in validation to prevent invalid configurations:
  • All numeric fields must be within their specified ranges
  • The “Save All Settings” button is disabled when validation errors exist
  • Error messages appear below fields that contain invalid values
  • You cannot save until all errors are resolved

Best Practices

Start Conservative

Begin with moderate values and adjust gradually based on actual performance data.

Seasonal Adjustments

Review and adjust settings seasonally to account for demand pattern changes.

Monitor Results

Track key metrics (stockouts, excess inventory, fulfillment rates) after making changes.

Document Changes

Keep a log of setting changes and the reasoning behind them for future reference.

Common Configuration Scenarios

High-Velocity Items

For fast-moving inventory with predictable demand:
  • Trailing Days (TY): 3-7 days (react quickly to recent trends)
  • Target WOS: 1-2 weeks (lower safety stock)
  • Inventory Trailing Days: 7-14 days

Seasonal Items

For items with seasonal demand patterns:
  • Forward Days (LY): 14-21 days (longer comparison period)
  • Target WOS: 3-4 weeks during peak season
  • Inventory Trailing Days: 14-21 days (capture seasonal patterns)

Slow-Moving Items

For items with irregular or low-volume demand:
  • Trailing Days (TY): 14-21 days (longer history for stability)
  • Target WOS: 4-8 weeks (higher safety stock)
  • Round to Full Cart: Enable to avoid partial shipments

Troubleshooting

Settings Won’t Save

Possible causes:
  • One or more fields contain invalid values
  • Network connectivity issues
  • Browser permissions blocking the save operation
Solutions:
  1. Check for error messages below each field
  2. Ensure all values are within acceptable ranges
  3. Verify your network connection
  4. Try refreshing the page and re-entering values

Unexpected Demand Calculations

If replenishment recommendations seem incorrect after changing settings:
  1. Review recent changes: Check if settings were modified unintentionally
  2. Verify data: Ensure sales history and inventory data is accurate
  3. Allow time: New settings may take 1-2 cycles to fully stabilize
  4. Compare results: Look at recommendations before and after the change
